What is catnip?

Catnip is a natural herb that attracts and stimulates cats. Due to a compound called nepetalactone found in the leaves, stems and seeds of the plant, catnip appeals to the natural instincts of your indoor cat. About 65% of cats respond to catnip while the degree of sensitivity varies between individuals.

Are all cats sensitive to catnip?

About 65% of cats respond to catnip while the degree of sensitivity varies between individuals. If your cat likes catnip, this will start to show at the age of about 6 months.

What can I use catnip for?

Catnip is a great training tool for cats. Apply catnip in a spot where you want your cat to scratch or play, and watch as the magic happens*. Use catnip spray on cat toys, fabrics, and scratching posts to safeguard your furniture!

*Please note that only about 65% of cats respond to catnip.

How long does catnip work?

A cat’s response to catnip lasts for about 10 minutes. After these 10 minutes, cats become temporarily immune to the effects of catnip. After a period of about 30 minutes, your cat will be able to enjoy the catnip again. Applying fresh catnip will not shorten this 30-minute time span.

How much catnip should I use?

Every cat responds differently to catnip. Start with a small dose and gradually heighten the dose if you feel this might be beneficial. Applying too much catnip can result in aggressive behavior. If your cat shows any signs of aggressive behavior, lower the dose.
